By
the end of the year the fleet will be all replaced. It's been quite some
time that there was a replacement of the fleet. The new tractors from Mack
Trucks delivered here at the NJI & BMC are a long overdue welcome. These new
tractors are the state of the art in diesel electronics, safety and
emissions. All the road tractors and the yard spotters all have automatic
transmissions. Also equipped with A/C Am/Fm stereo cd and weather band
radios. I have say this one time we have to give kudos to the Apwu and the
negotiating management for getting the tractors with A/C and automatic
transmissions. This will make moving the mail a much more efficient and
pleasing during the hot months.
The yard spotters are among the first to be replaced. We really needed new spotters. Theses get the most use running 24 / 7 on all tours moving trailers around in the yard. With the new spotters is also coming a new yard system called YMS for tracking the mail within the BMC grounds. This will make tracking and moving of the mail much better and faster then before. I know the yard guys are happy with the A/C in the spotters they have to be in the trucks most of the day making moves. The temperature in the summer can reach as much as 105+ degrees, Boy that's hot!. These guys really do work for there pay! We got about half the spotters now and the rest will be delivered some time in June or July. Just a safety note: There should be no one walking in the yard, especially at night. The drivers are not use to seeing people walking around. We are not looking for you, "people" to be around our busy work area. The drivers are very busy watching all the other outside trucks while making moves at the same time. Let all work safe and please don't walk around our busy work area only walk in designated areas, these areas we expect you to be there. |
